[밸류체인타임스 = 강유희 수습기자] 회피성 성격장애 (Avoidant Personality)란 친밀한 대인관계를 원하지만 거부당하는 것이 두려워 사람을 피하는 성격장애다. 타인이 자신을 평가할까 봐 지나치게 신경 쓰고, 부정적인 평가에 대한 과민성 반응을 보이며 보장되지 않은 대인관계, 사회적 관계를 갖지 못한다. 과거에는 ‘소외형’, ‘과민반응성 장애’라고 불렸다.
회피성 성격장애의 특징은 대인관계를 감당하기 버거워하지만 사회적 교류에 대한 욕구를 가지고 있다. 불안에 방어적 태도가 취해져 타인의 시선에는 냉정하고 무관심해 보인다. 자존감이 낮고 타인의 표현, 감정, 의도에 민감하며 타인이 어색하게 대하면 위축된다.

회피성 성격장애의 원인은 선천적 원인과 후천적 원인으로 나뉜다. 선천적 원인은 체질적으로 불안한 편에 속하고 변연계의 신경세포 밀도가 높은 편이다. 교감신경계 기능이 강하다. 교감신경계란 긴장 시 활성화되는 자율신경계의 일종이다.
후천적 원인은 까다로운 기질의 아이에게 부모가 함께 야단치고 화를 내며 잘못된 양육태도로 인해 회피적인 애착 형성을 조성한다. 또한 불안으로 인해 새로운 도전과 성장을 피하고, 따돌림, 괴롭힘 등을 당해 회피성 성격장애를 가지게 된다.
회피성 성격장애 치료 방법으로는 완벽주의를 버리고 타인의 ‘속뜻’을 짐작하려 하지 않아야 한다. 거부에 대한 인지적 왜곡을 교정해야 한다. 수치심과 모욕감을 피한 선택이 자신을 외로움으로 이끌어 간다는 것을 인지해 주어야 한다.
